Hearing Aid Maintenance

Regular maintenance and cleaning should be performed on your hearing aids. Care instructions for your hearing aids will be given to you when you receive the devices and our hearing care professional will go over the information with you.

Hearing Aid Repairs

If your hearing aid needs a simple repair, they are easily managed at our clinic. Most of the time a thorough clean and check of your hearing aids resolves hearing aid issues. Sometimes hearing aids need small repairs such as:

  • Changing tubes
  • Changing wax guards
  • Cleaning the receivers

If the damage to the hearing aid is more severe, they are sent to the manufacturers for repair. Most hearing aid manufacturers in Canada are located in Ontario. It may take between five to ten business days to receive your hearing aids back from repair. Our hearing care professionals will give you a call when your hearing aids are ready to be picked up at the clinic.

Hearing Aid Batteries

Hearing aid batteries are an essential part of your hearing aids as they power the device to work. There are different types and sizes of batteries that are used for different models of hearing aids. The larger and more powerful hearing aids, such as Behind-The-Ear hearing aids, require larger batteries. Smaller hearing aids, like In-The-Ear hearing aids, need smaller batteries so the hearing aid can still fit in your ear.

There are also rechargeable hearing aids, so you don’t have to replace the battery. Instead, you simply place the hearing aids on the charger.

If you want to know what size of battery your hearing aid requires you can check the battery package or contact your local hearing clinic.

Replacing the Batteries

When replacing the batteries, please ensure that you insert the batteries with the minus and plus sides pointing the right way. If the battery compartment will not close, or is difficult to close, it is usually because the battery has been inserted the wrong way.

There are now hearing aids available that use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable batteries.

Hearing Aid Accessories

Hearing aid accessories can help enhance your hearing aids to make certain situations even better. Whether you are looking at TV streaming devices, remote controls, or accessories to help maintain your hearing aids, there is probably a device that can help you hear even better. Here are some of the hearing aid accessories that may be available to you.
